THE SHIH TZU FAMILY TREE

Although how they got there, records disagree, we do know they were raised in Tibetan   palaces   by   eunuchs   for   the   pleasure   of   the   nobility.

Nachubans Hot Diggity It’s Denroma

Their distant relatives are  Pekingese and Tibetan  dogs.   Shih

Tzu   come  in  every  colour  ~  some part  white  with another

colour  known as “Parti Colours”.   Others one colour only and

these are known   as “Solids”, but never solid white.

PURPOSE         Every dog has a reason for  being.    The Shih Tzu  reason is strictly to give and receive love.    Shih Tzu do  not   know  how to  hunt,  pull,  track or attack but just love to be with you.

Although they  may  bark  to let  you know   there is someone at  the  door they  will love  them once  they  know they are your friends  and will always try their  best to please you and love the praise and attention this will attract.

CHARACTER        Shih  Tzu  are  lively,  alert,  full  of  fun  and  ready to join in all the family games.      THEY  SHOULD   NOT   BE HIGHLY  STRUNG!     They  are intelligent and enjoy learning new tricks and should be friendly towards humans and other dogs.

EXERCISE AND MAINTENANCE     They are most definitely ‘house dogs’ who  will  happily go for long walks or runs, but - please

DID THE PERSON SELLING THE PUP BREED IT THEMSELVES?

CAN YOU SEE THE MOTHER?

ARE THE PUPS “K.C.” (Kennel Club) REGISTERED?       Save in exceptional circumstances  the answer should be YES.

If they are not they will not be eligible for showing nor can  their progeny be registered with the K.C..

ASK IF THE BREEDER IS ACTIVELY INVOLVED WITH ONE OF THE BREED CLUBS.  ~~~   These are the people who are trying to achieve good quality pups which will grow into healthy adults bearing a strong resemblance to the breed standard set down by our  UK  KENNEL CLUB.          The K.C. has a code of ethics and when registering a litter with them breeders must sign a declaration which includes                “Owners will not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers or retail pet dealers”

A RESPONSIBLE BREEDER will not sell a pup before the age of 8 weeks..   They will supply you with written instructions for day to day care, feeding and grooming and also when it was last wormed.   It will also give contact details for ongoing support for you and your puppy.

Some people buy a pup and decide they would like “just one litter”.  These dogs are usually clean, happy and loved.  Some of these owners contact the original breeder and take advice.   These litters produced with the help of the original breeder should be healthy.

Others who think it is just a case of letting two dogs of the same breed mate and do not check  if the Stud Dog produces health or temperament problems could be heading for trouble and will not be able to offer the same level of support as someone who has studied the breed for many years.

Remember pups should only have short walks.   They are happy running around the garden playing with their toys.
Regular baths are required but, before bathing please gently comb or tease out any tangles they may have.
After a good rub down with a towel, dry off with a hairdryer.
Wiping their faces every morning with their own face
flannel helps prevent their faces from staining.

DO YOU STILL WANT TO BUY A PUPPY?

If the answer is yes and you have decided to make a
Shih Tzu part of your family

                                                                                                  CONGRATULATIONS!

But   please   do  not  rush  out  to  buy  one.
Now  Is  the  time  to  start talking to ethical breeders who
May  be  referred  to  you  by one of the Kennel Clubs recognized
Breed  Clubs.      Try   to   go   to  dog  shows  and  talk  to  breeders.
Reputable breeders do not have pups available all the time, but their pups will be worth waiting for.   Do not
Be offended if the breeder asks you lots of questions.   We ask out of concern and try to ensure our puppies
Go to suitable homes.      After  all  we  have looked after these little bundles for the first few weeks of their
Lives and have grown to love them.     We have had sleepless nights making sure Mum doesn’t accidentally
Roll over and smother them.    We make sure they all get a fair share of their mothers milk  and we are there when they have had tummy ache.
